Why the Trade Benefits the Philadelphia 76ers
The 76ers signed Al Horford and Tobias Harris to a combined $289 million last offseason. This was a complete blunder and makes it difficult to build a winner. We saw that during the restart. The Simmons-Embiid experiment excited fans for a brief time but let’s face it — it has not worked.
Joel Embiid has his own style of play and it thrives on his back-to-the-basket style with an occasional outside shot. He is a better defender than Karl-Anthony Towns but the current Timberwolve would fit in better offensively.
Towns is a legitimate three-point threat. He can step out and shoot with range and this would work well with Simmons’ offensive skill set.
When looking at this deal, it is as simple as saying that Towns would fit in better and improve the 76ers offensively. Something has to be done. Worst case for Philadelphia is that they keep their roster the same and remain in mediocrity.
