3 intriguing NBA free agency targets for the Chicago Bulls

It seems very unlikely that the Bulls will swing big on a star this offseason. Chicago isn’t that close to competing for a championship. Chris Paul would be an intriguing addition, but there is no reason to give up that much value for him.

Instead, the Bulls should focus on adding pieces that can improve them now and also play with them in the future as their young talent grows.

Here are three free agents the Bulls should take a long look at this offseason.

3. Kris Dunn, Point Guard, Bulls

One name that is very familiar to the Bulls is point guard Kris Dunn. After being taken with the No. 5 overall pick in the 2016 NBA Draft, many thought Dunn was a bust. However, he has carved out a very solid role with the Bulls and has turned into an elite defender.

Dunn averaged 7.3 points, 3.6 rebounds, and 3.4 assists per game last season with the Bulls. He needs to improve his offensive game, but he is still a quality role player.

Bringing the 26-year-old point guard back in free agency would be smart. Even if he doesn’t start, he is the kind of hard-working bench piece that every young team needs to have.

2. Sterling Brown, Shooting Guard, Bucks

This move isn’t going to turn many heads either, but Sterling Brown will be a solid bench addition for any team that picks him up. He is just 25 years old and is not going to cost very much.

Brown played with the Bucks last season. He ended up playing in 52 games and started in one of those appearances. In those games, he averaged 5.1 points, 3.5 rebounds, and 1.0 assists.

Even though he wouldn’t move the needle much, Brown could be a very nice low-cost, high-reward type of addition for the Bulls.

1. Glenn Robinson III, Small Forward, 76ers

At 26 years old, Robinson would be the biggest addition that the Bulls could make in free agency. He has never truly received a great chance to prove himself. With the Bulls, he would receive that opportunity.

Robinson split last season between the Golden State Warriors and Philadelphia 76ers. He averaged 11.7 points, 4.4 rebounds, and 1.5 assists per game. In addition to those numbers, he shot 40 percent from the three-point line in the 48 games he played with the Warriors.

Once again, this move would not cost the Bulls a ton. They may need to use the full MLE to get the job done, but the move would be worth it. Robinson could even turn into a full-time starter in Chicago.
