There has been ‘no traction’ for Chris Paul trade with the Bucks

The Milwaukee Bucks face an uncertain offseason centered around the future of Giannis Antetokounmpo with the organization. One of the biggest questions has been whether the team would look to trade for Chris Paul from the Oklahoma City Thunder.

According to ESPN’s Zach Lowe, the Oklahoma City Thunder and Milwaukee Bucks have experienced ‘no traction’ on a potential trade. In fact, there have not even been talks so far.

There has been no traction so far — and maybe not even any talks — on any deal sending Chris Paul from the Oklahoma City Thunder to the Bucks, multiple sources say.

The salary cap maneuvering required for the Bucks to pull off a trade for Paul would be a bit complicated. However, with such a short window to win a championship with Giannis Antetokounmpo on his current contract, making something work for Paul is ideal.

There just simply isn’t an option available that checks the boxes that Paul does for a guard. He not only is an elite facilitator and defender, he can create his own shot reliably and can knock down open shots that come his way. That’s an ideal combination for any team to have at point guard.

Age is the only factor that may deter a risk-averse team like the Bucks from pushing for a trade for Paul. Not taking these types of chances is something that could limit Milwaukee from ever being in a position to not only winning the NBA Finals, but even making it to that point.

If Chris Paul isn’t the option the Milwaukee Bucks want to pursue to pair with Giannis Antetokounmpo, they will need to get creative seeking an alternative. Going a different route just appears to be a mistake given the circumstances.
