There are few teams in need of an upgrade at the center position than the Celtics. Even if there are teams with a bigger need, they are not in Boston’s position to win immediately.

Let’s be honest, the Celtics were pushed around by Bam Adebayo down low during the Eastern Conference Finals. This cannot happen moving forward. Daniel Theis and Robert Williams played well but nothing jumped out. Okongwu is a player who jumps off the page.

The Celtics have three picks in the 1st round in the 2020 NBA Draft and they could use them to move up and grab Okongwu. That appears to be what their desired outcome is.

There are not many options outside of Okongwu at the center position. James Wiseman is not going to fall very far and Jalen Smith is a question mark. The Celtics have a history of draft night trades and we could see another one here.
