Why The Washington Wizards Should Do It
The Washington Wizards are operating from a position of strength as it pertains to Bradley Beal. Even if Washington truly wants to trade him, they’ve sent out all the correct signals — that he’s not available.
This could increase the demand for him, and several teams could present formidable offers.
In this hypothetical deal, Washington acquires a player in LaVine who still hasn’t quite reached his ceiling. The Wizards also land the No. 4 pick, which in addition to No. 9 overall give Washington two picks in the top-10.
The Wizards, through this hypothetical would have four first-rounders over the next two years. If trading Beal is a clear indication of an impending rebuild, this would be a great way to go about it.
It’s never easy to part with a star, and the Wizards would probably face some extent of criticism. But Washington could capitalize on Beal’s value by trading him too soon, rather than too late.
