Why the Cavaliers Should Do It
The Cavaliers need a player such as Brown to try to reach the next level in the Eastern Conference.
Cleveland is about to enter year-three of the post-LeBron James era after James left Cleveland to sign with the Lakers.
At some point, the Cavs need to try to make a move for a difference-maker, whether it’s Brown, or a player such as a Ben Simmons if he were available.
Cleveland has done well to stockpile guards such as Collin Sexton, Darius Garland and Kevin Porter Jr. But even with Kevin Love still in town, the Cavs need help to get out of the lottery.
Brown, 24, has the potential to be an All Star many times over. He averaged a career-high 20.3 points last season with the Celtics, and his 55 percent eFG% was also a career high.
Brown has a four-year, $107 million contract that keeps him under team control through 2023-24, and he’ll be able to reach free agency in 2024, at age 27.
