This 76ers-Celtics trade would send Al Horford back to Boston

Al Horford was a member of the Boston Celtics for three years, from 2016 to 2019. Horford, a five-time All-Star, is still with the Philadelphia 76ers, but he would fill a big need for the Celtics this offseason.

Horford, 34, would be able to step in at center for a Celtics squad in need of an upgrade in their front court.

The 13-year veteran is under contract for three more seasons, through 2022-23, in what is almost certainly his final NBA contract. If Boston had interest in reacquiring Horford, it would have to be via a trade.

Examining the landscape for the Sixers, Philadelphia had another upsetting outcome in the 2020 playoffs in the NBA bubble. With Doc Rivers now in town, it wouldn’t be all that surprising to see the 76ers make additional changes this offseason.

Whether those changes are so drastic that they include the likes of Joel Embiid or Ben Simmons remains to be seen. But trading Horford would be a way to keep the Sixers’ core intact while still reshuffling some pieces from last season.

Let’s take a look at a hypothetical trade that would see Al Horford head back to the Boston Celtics.
