Why the Celtics Should Do It
Boston is coming off of a bitter playoff defeat at the hands of the Miami Heat.
Boston was outplayed in the bubble, but that won’t change their expectations for next season. The Celtics are still expected to contend, thanks to their core of Tatum, Brown and Walker.
But Boston needs an upgrade in the middle, and Drummond would be a good fit, even if it ultimately is just a one-year rental.
Drummond averaged 17.7 points and 15.2 rebounds per game last season, between Detroit and Cleveland. His PER last year, 22.0, was nearly identical to his career average, at 22.1.
Drummond and the Celtics would be a good pairing, as Boston prepares to take on the likes of Miami, Philadelphia and others next season.
Boston also would acquire former Warriors guard Alfonzo Mckinnie, who could serve as added backcourt depth.
