Heat acquire DeMar DeRozan

Spurs acquire Andre Iguodala, Kelly Olynyk, 2020 first round pick

In this next trade, the Spurs land the same return as the previous slide, plus Miami’s first round pick in next month’s draft.

Miami may not be willing to give up much more than that for DeRozan. But there’s one thing to keep in mind regarding DeRozan to Miami. Unlike Giannis Antetokounmpo or Victor Oladipo, whom the Heat can sign in 2021 if they reach free agency, the strategy would be different for DeRozan.

DeRozan would fit into Miami’s cap this year, and it’s part of the reason trading for him is more attractive than waiting for him to reach free agency.

DeRozan could help the Heat try to win next season, while preserving Miami’s flexibility that it has planned for the big summer of 2021.
