Why It Makes Sense For The Knicks
On the other hand, the Knicks have a major need for a star. They have taken big swings and have missed in free agency over the last few years. Making a trade for an All-Star like Victor Oladipo would make a ton of sense.
Oladipo showed enough at the end of the season for the Knicks to believe that he can bounce back to his old self. Being able to lock him up long-term would be the main concern.
Following the 2020-21 season, Oladipo will be able to hit open free agency. That is why the Pacers may be forced to move him. Oladipo wants to win championships and the Knicks may feel that they would be able to attract more talent by bringing in a current All-Star.
When he’s healthy, Oladipo is a lethal scorer, a great defender, and an infectious leader with his heart and energy. He helped turn the Pacers around after a brutal situation with Paul George. Perhaps he could do the same for the Knicks.
Plenty of other teams will have interest in trading for Oladipo, but the Knicks giving up the pieces involved in this trade would be nothing too big for the franchise. Oladipo would provide the star power that New York needs and he is very well liked around the league.
Adding Oladipo and having him recruit more talent to the Knicks is a real possibility. This move makes all the sense in the world for New York.
