Why It Makes Sense For The Pacers
Obviously, the most attractive part of this trade package for Kevin Pritchard and company would be the No. 8 overall pick. If they are going to go into a small rebuilding process, a high lottery draft pick is a must. The Pacers could find a very good piece with the selection.
Names like Killian Hayes, Isaac Okoro, Tyrese Haliburton, and even Cole Anthony could be in play.
As for the other pieces, Dennis Smith Jr. would be an intriguing pickup. He didn’t find a consistent role with the Knicks, averaging just 5.5 points, 2.9 assists, and 2.3 rebounds per game this season. Back in 2018-19 with the Knicks, however, he averaged 14.7 points per game to go along with 5.4 assists, 2.8 rebounds, and 1.3 steals.
Randle would be an intriguing fit alongside Domantas Sabonis or Myles Turner in the front-court. His addition would allow the Pacers to trade one of their current two big men. He can stretch the floor, handle the ball, and score anywhere on the court.
In 2019-20, Randle averaged 19.5 points, 9.7 rebounds, and 3.1 assists. Not bad numbers from the 25-year-old power forward.
While the Pacers might not make an NBA Finals push with this move, it would be a quality trio of assets moving forward.
