RUMOR: Heat could pursue Montrezl Harrell in free agency

The Miami Heat are preparing to take on the Los Angeles Lakers in the NBA Finals after an impressive postseason run. However, it is never too early to begin looking ahead at the offseason. It appears that the Heat could take a long look at signing free agent power forward Montrezl Harrell.

According to an NBA executive via Eric Pincus of Bleacher Report, the Heat could be planning to pursue this offseason when free agency opens.

“They will leave space for Giannis, but they could give [Harrell] a big one-year deal. They always figure it out.”

Obviously, the Heat are not going to make any move that jeopardizes their ability to pursue Giannis Antetokounmpo following next season. But, a lucrative one-year deal for Harrell could make perfect sense.

Harrell would give the Heat an energetic rebounding partner alongside rising star Bam Adebayo in the front-court. He is one of the more underrated players in the NBA and would be an immediately big addition for Miami.

During the 2019-20 NBA season with the Los Angeles Clippers, Harrell averaged 18.6 points, 7.1 rebounds, 1.7 assists, and 1.1 blocks per game. He shot 58 percent from the field, with most of his buckets coming off of offensive rebounds or his ability to put the ball on the floor and get to the rim.

At just 26 years old, Harrell will be one of the most coveted free agents on the market. Joining a championship contender would be of major interest to him. The Heat can absolutely offer him that opportunity.

Miami will have a lot of competition to sign Harrell, if that is what they decide to do. In addition to the Heat, the Toronto Raptors, New York Knicks, and the Clippers have been listed as teams with interest in signing Harrell.

Expect to hear more rumors about Montrezl Harrell as the offseason draws closer. Keep an eye on the Heat as a potential landing spot for him.
