The Trade
Heat Receive: Victor Oladipo
Pacers Receive: Kendrick Nunn, Duncan Robinson, Andre Iguodala, 2020 First-Round Pick, 2022 Second-Round pick via Philadelphia or Denver (less favorable)
While the Pacers’ fan base has dreams about the Heat including Tyler Herro in this deal, it simply isn’t going to happen. Oladipo is good, but he isn’t good enough for the Heat to throw him into this trade.
However, Indiana would be getting two very talented young pieces in Nunn and Robinson. Iguodala would add an excellent veteran presence who could help the team compete next season. Throwing in a first-round pick this year and a second-round asset in 2022 would intriguing Kevin Pritchard as well.
For the Heat, they would be getting their star shooting guard to form somewhat of a “Big Three” with Jimmy Butler and Bam Adebayo. If Herro develops the way Miami is expecting, they could have a “Big Four” in a year or two.
Trading Oladipo is the last thing the Pacers want to do. They want to keep him as their franchise player for years to come. Unfortunately, the rumblings around Indiana are that Oladipo is already eyeing his way out of town next offseason in free agency with the Heat being an ideal landing spot.
Indiana has been down this road before. Just a few short years ago, Paul George acted like he wanted to remain with the Pacers long-term. He changed his mind and forced his way out of Indiana.
Pritchard will have some tough decisions to make. Trading Oladipo may very well be one of them. If that is the case, this is the best offer the Heat could make for him.
Would it be enough to get the deal done? Possibly, but we won’t know until we see it happen. However, it’s an intriguing offer and one the Heat and Pacers should both consider if Victor Oladipo does end up on the trade block.
