Nets Receive: Paul George
Clippers Receive: Caris LeVert, Spencer Dinwiddie, Jarrett Allen, 2020 1st Round Pick (via PHI), 2021 1st Round Pick
If the Clippers’ shortcomings in the playoffs showed anything about their weaknesses, it’s that a lack of reliable lane penetration options and passing talent was too much to overcome. Moving George to the Nets could help address some of that.
By adding both LeVert and Dinwiddie into the fold, Los Angeles would have a large backcourt that gets to the rim with ease and can create shots for teammates. The supporting cast around Leonard would be better equipped to create simpler shots for him throughout games.
Allen would bring the Clippers a shot-blocking presence and a highly efficient impact as a rim-roller. It would be helpful when considering the Western Conference Finals features two elite big man talents in Anthony Davis and Nikola Jokic.
Going younger would help the Clippers to sustain a winning product in the long-term if Leonard were to eventually depart, or simply decline. With George, he has struggled to stay healthy to finish playoff runs — rapidly diminishing his impact from the All-NBA First-Team production he posted in last year’s regular season.
As for the Nets, it’s important to go all-in as soon as Kyrie Irving and Kevin Durant make their return to the lineup. Making a play for another established star like George would help Brooklyn to run the table in the Eastern Conference.
