The Trade
Celtics Receive: Myles Turner and Jeremy Lamb
Pacers Receive: Gordon Hayward, 2020 No. 14 overall pick, and a 2021 first-round pick
This would obviously be a bit of a blockbuster deal for both teams. It would send major talents from one side to the other and would change the landscape of the Eastern Conference just a bit.
For the Celtics, this trade would be a perfect move to shore up the starting lineup. Turner would slide in seamlessly alongside Jayson Tatum, Jaylen Brown, Marcus Smart, and Kemba Walker. He would provide much-needed defense and the ability to hit the perimeter spot-up jumper.
On the other hand, the Pacers would be breaking up their dual big man front-court and would commit to Domantas Sabonis as their center. Hayward would provide Indiana with a much-needed scoring option alongside Victor Oladipo and Malcolm Brogdon.
Both teams would be adding exactly what they need to take the next step. Hayward would be heading home to Indiana, where he played his college basketball at Butler.
Hayward could end up sticking with the Celtics for another season. However, he doesn’t fit great and the Pacers would offer him a much better chance to be an integral part of the offense. He averaged 17.5 points, 6.7 rebounds, and 4.1 assists in 2019-20.
Rumors have connected the Pacers and Celtics to a potential Gordon Hayward trade this year. Swapping Turner and Hayward with the attached pieces above would make a lot of sense.
Expect to hear quite a few rumors surrounding Myles Turner and Gordon Hayward this offseason. The Pacers and Celtics may not choose to deal them, but a swap for each other is something to keep an eye on.
