DeRozan leading the Spurs
San Antonio hasn’t been considered a team that could make the playoffs this season, but their 2-2 record so far leaves them just 1.5 games out. DeMar DeRozan has led the way, averaging 22.5 points through four games. There’s a lot of different players on this Spurs team who contribute, with seven players in double figures in scoring.
LaMarcus Aldridge was great before the hiatus but an injury ended his season, while the likes of Dejounte Murray and Rudy Gay get their fair share of touches. Jakob Poeltl has stepped into a starting role at center, but other than that, they’re relatively small. In their loss to Denver on Wednesday, their lack of size was exposed by a large Nuggets team.
San Antonio realistically still has a shot at making the playoffs, but it won’t be easy. They meet Utah twice, while also playing the Rockets and Pelicans. It’s not like they’re a team who would make much of a dent in the postseason, but either way, the Spurs are well in the running with four games to go.
