Boston’s Trio Impressed This Season
After Kyrie Irving left Boston in the offseason for Brooklyn, it was evident that the organization needed another franchise guard to fill the void left by the aforementioned. With that in mind, they sent Terry Rozier to the Charlotte Hornets in exchange for Kemba Walker.
The four-time All-Star impressed in his first season in Beantown, averaging 21.2 points and 4.9 assists per game. Although his scoring numbers were down from past seasons in Charlotte, it’s understandable because it’s not just him being relied on offensively in Boston, which was the situation with the Hornets.
The Celtics backcourt of Walker and Jaylen Brown was extremely productive this season, with the latter also sinking over 20 points per night. Along with Tatum as well, the newly formed trio was always in sync with one another, accounting for the majority of Boston’s offensive output on a nightly basis.
At 30-years old, Walker still has a number of years to go and with this being his first time on a contender, you better believe that the former UConn star is determined to make a deep run in the playoffs with his new team. As for Brown and Tatum, they’ve already had a taste of postseason basketball, but with both of them still very young, the future looks bright for this dynamic duo.
The Celtics have had numerous trios in the past, but their current one is definitely exciting given their abilities to produce on both ends of the court and work together as one. Irving was a selfish player who couldn’t really be bothered with seeing his teammates grow. But as for Walker, he’s actually a team guy who has clearly helped Tatum and Brown develop this year.
He’s giving this young duo the opportunity to take over games and hit those crucial shots which is something that Irving simply didn’t do because he wanted the big moment for himself. It’s going to be exciting to see just how good the new big three in Boston can be in the coming years.
