Jayson Tatum is Emerging Into a Superstar

Over the last couple of seasons, Jayson Tatum has developed into a very instrumental player for the Celtics. In his rookie year back in 2017-18, the former Duke standout showed out in the postseason, averaging 18.5 points per contest in 19 playoff appearances.

It was at that moment, as such a young player, that everyone across the association knew that Tatum was going to be special. This season for Boston, the 22-year old led his team in scoring, dropping 23.6 points, 7.1 boards, and 2.9 assists per game, all career-highs across the board and over 10 points more than he averaged in his rookie season just two years ago.

Tatum has become one of the primary pieces of the Celtics’ offense this season, in particular, emerging as their go-to guy when the game is on the line. He has also trusted his abilities from three-point range a lot more, draining 40 percent of his 7.1 three’s per game.

Last season, Tatum attempted just 3.9 shots from downtown per contest, so there’s definitely been a huge jump in that category. Thanks to his outstanding campaign, Tatum was also named to his first All-Star team. If he continues to play at such a high level, he’ll be picked for many more in the future.

It’s likely Tatum will receive a max deal from Boston this summer which he is clearly deserving of. At the rate he’s improving every year, the C’s forward could be one of the best players in the game in the near future.
