3 reasons the New Orleans Pelicans should look to trade Jrue Holiday

1. Holiday Doesn’t Match Williamson’s Timeline

The priority for the New Orleans Pelicans needs to be to surround Zion Williamson with properly fitting pieces that match his timeline. He is only 20-years-old and his timeline doesn’t align with the same as Jrue Holiday, who is going to be turning 30-years-old in June.

Managing to acquire younger players or assets in exchange for Holiday would better equip the Pelicans to build around Williamson. It could also help them mold the style of play they want with their new franchise-cornerstone by prioritizing adding more shooting.

The level of attention Williamson draws to the paint is arguably unparalleled in modern NBA history. Managing to maximize that ability by having players that defenses don’t want to leave open could make for quite the foundation for an offense.

Another thing to consider, when Williamson continues to develop as a facilitator as he adjusts to the NBA level, having shooters could help the Pelicans’ offense grow significantly. Right now, they have a few designated threats but it’s not enough yet.

The time when Williamson is really hitting his stride in the NBA will be when Holiday is probably beginning to wind down. It’s ideal to have players that are at least somewhat growing together or at least have supporting cast pieces that will contribute while they are in their prime.
