Phoenix Suns: 3 Point Guards That Should be on the Team’s Trade Radar

#3: Terry Rozier

Boston Celtics fans may be upset with this selection but all good things must come to an end. After an amazing 2018 postseason, it’s almost crazy not to think that Boston hasn’t considered moving their backup guard.

In last year’s playoffs without Kyrie Irving in the lineup, Terry Rozier rose to the occasion averaging 16.5 points per game. In addition to his 16.5 points, the three-year veteran averaged 5.7 assists and 5.3 rebounds in the playoffs. The Boston guard also showed that he has ice water in his veins when it comes to crunch time situations.

Unfortunately, the script has changed as Rozier has witnessed his role reduced right before his eyes. This season has been interesting for the Celtics as a whole. The team is currently the favorite to win the east (assuming all goes well).

All Good Things Must End

To no one’s surprise, there have been trade rumors going around about Rozier and how he is unhappy with his role. Recently the Celtics president of basketball operations, Danny Ainge, indicated that the rumors were not true on a radio interview with “Toucher and Rich” on Boston’s 98.5 FM (h/t Celtics Wire’s Moke Hamilton).

Rozier will be a restricted free agent this summer which will make it difficult for teams to pry him away from the Celtics. But it’s safe to say that Ainge will entertain the right deal. This trade would make perfect sense for the Suns.

The 24-year-old guard loves to push the pace and move the ball. He does an excellent job of getting his teammates involved while creating for himself. One key factor would be that he does not overshadow Booker who is the cornerstone in Phoenix.

Ayton and Rozier would instantly gel because of the big man’s ability to catch and shoot and run the pick & roll. During last year’s postseason, Rozier scored a lot of his points in transition and by slithering through pick & rolls.

This trade could also help the Suns save money because he would not require a max deal. If the Celtics continue to struggle and Rozier does not get an ample amount of play time he will ask to be moved at some point.

The Phoenix Suns have been building in the right direction but in order to take the next step, they need to add a high-quality point guard. There are plenty of options out there but the front office needs to invest in something long term.

Currently, the team is 3-11 on the season and will host the Oklahoma City Thunder Saturday night at 9 PM.
