Is Irving A Team Player?
It may be weird to speak of the Celtics’ future and not mention Kyrie Irving. However, the future may not need to include Irving at all. With his price sure to climb in the summer of 2019, the Celtics must think about their other young players who will hit the market that same year and in 2021. Will they have enough to sign Tatum? What will they do with Horford, and what will happen with Hayward and Brown?
But the biggest reason that Irving must be traded is the Boston Celtics may no longer be “his” team. If you recall, this was the issue with the Cavaliers. According to reports, Irving wanted out from under the shadow of LeBron James. He wanted to be his own man.
Irving wanted to team up with Horford, who has played more of a background role despite his experience. Hayward missed the season so we never had a chance to see the Kyrie and Gordon chemistry or lack thereof. This season, there has been no real chemistry as Hayward has struggled with Irving on the court and without.
Outside of those players, the Boston Celtics are young and were labeled as a bit inexperienced. However, when Irving went down, those same young players stepped into his role and didn’t miss a beat.
With their success, the question was asked, how important is Kyrie Irving to the Boston Celtics?
