Los Angeles Lakers: 3 Reasons Why Trading Lonzo Ball Makes Sense

Los Angeles

2. Lack of Floor Spacing

Like other teams in the league, everyone is trying to figure out how to dethrone the Golden State Warriors. In order to beat Golden State teams have to be able to score easy buckets and shoot from long range. If Los Angeles is done adding to the roster it’s safe to say that this years team will push the tempo.

In the same light, this year’s team has the ability to shoot a higher three-point percentage than last year. At the end of the 2017-18 season, the team finished 29th in three-point percentage shooting 34.5 percent from behind the line. Last year Ball played 52 games and shot an awful 30.5 percent from three.

Ball has the ability to break down the defense off the dribble, get his teammates involved and create his own offense. But in order for Ball to co-exist with this year’s roster he has to be able to knock down the three. Even though Rondo struggles behind the arc his ability to remain aggressive with or without the basketball helps him excel on any team that he is on.

No disrespect to Ball, but Rondo’s basketball IQ separates him and makes Los Angeles more dangerous. Rondo proved that he can lead a team with sharpshooters around him in 2008 with the Boston Celtics. This year’s potential starting line up could consist of Ball, Caldwell-Pope, Ingram, James, and McGee.

Outside of Ball and McGee, the rest of the potential starting lineup shoots above 35 percent from three. Playing Ball could hinder the Lake Shows offense from a shooting standpoint. The Lakers front office may want to consider trading Ball for a shooting point guard.
