Portland Trail Blazers: 3 Questions Following the 2018 NBA Offseason

Craig Mitchelldyer-USA TODAY Sports

Do They Have Enough Firepower in the Frontcourt?

One of the positions the Portland Trail Blazers keep ignoring is the power forward spot. According to Rotoworld, the Blazers are staying with Al-Farouq Aminu to begin the season. In 2017, Aminu played in 69 games (67 starts) and averaged 9.3 points and 7.6 rebounds in 30 minutes of action.

While his rebounding was a plus, Aminu offers very little regarding scoring. His slender frame does not boast well against the likes of Anthony Davis, Draymond Green, Blake Griffin or any of the other PF who loves to get physical in the paint.

With Zach Collins, Meyers Leonard, and Caleb Swanigan as their other frontcourt options and Neil Olshey may have dropped the ball with it. There were frontcourt talents available in the free agency market like DeMarcus Cousins, Julius Randle, and even Jahlil Okafor. The Blazers passed and will rely upon, yet again, on a lineup with plans to run.

Aminu is a good defender, but his lack of production on the offensive end and their lack of frontcourt depth just puts added pressure on Lillard, McCollum, and Nurkic. While they have continued to win since the departure of LaMarcus Aldridge, the Blazers are in desperate need of a player who can score from the inside and draw double teams to free up the perimeter for that amazing backcourt.
