Versatility
After adding players like Green and Austin Rivers, the Wizards should be well equipped to put several different lineups on the floor for specific purposes. Do they need three guards who can score and distribute? No problem. John Wall, Austin Rivers, and Bradley Beal all fit the bill. How about versatile wing players in a small ball situation? You bet. Troy Brown, Oubre, Green and Otto Porter can fill that role.
Austin Rivers averaged a career-high 15.1 points per game last season and did so on a good Clippers team in a tough Western Conference. His ability to score and potentially defend both point guards and shooting guards will be key in how Scott Brooks decides to distribute minutes. Rookie Troy Brown will also be a big part of Washington’s bench. A 6’7″ wing with the skill set of a guard, Brown could feature in big or small lineups for the Wizards this season.
The Wizards will have no shortage of options to experiment with for this season. The potential is there for them to accomplish great things with the talent that they have on this roster, but the majority of the responsibility will fall on the shoulders of coach Scott Brooks. His guidance and decision making – especially when it comes to the bench – will go a long way in deciding the outcome of this season in Washington.
