Portland Trail Blazers: 3 Takeaways from the 2018 NBA Offseason

Jaime Valdez-USA TODAY Sports

The Bottom Line Likely Remains the Same

Even though the addition of Curry will be a good one, the Blazers likely will not go much farther in the West than they would have otherwise. There are too many teams with more talent that Portland has for them to make much more noise than earning a playoff spot.

Damian Lillard and C.J. McCollum are one of the most lethal scoring duos in the league. While they are capable of putting up numbers, each of them have had consistency issues throughout their careers. Portland has seen too many nights where one of them is on fire, while the other can’t buy a bucket.

Outside of the two star guards, the Trail Blazers do not have much other than role players. Jusuf Nurkic re-signed in free agency, while other players like Al-Farouq Aminu, Maurice Harkless, and Evan Turner are nothing more than solid pieces to surround them. Portland will need to find a third impact player in order to take the leap that they need.

Portland is going to be a quality team this season and should make the playoffs once again, but they will still end up being a playoff team that exits early.
