Jimmy Butler’s name has once again surfaced in the NBA rumor mill, and the Golden State Warriors are reportedly a team to watch.

According to The Athletic’s Sam Amick, the Warriors may have explored the possibility of acquiring Butler this summer as they look to maximize Stephen Curry’s remaining prime years.

With Butler’s contract extension with the Miami Heat still unresolved, the Warriors could be one of several teams making inquiries about the All-Star forward. Golden State, having failed to land Paul George or Lauri Markkanen this offseason, may now be considering Butler as the star who can push them back into championship contention.

Although Butler is in the later stages of his career, his impact on both ends of the floor makes him an attractive option for teams aiming for a title.

Potential Trade Package for Jimmy Butler

In a proposed trade package discussed by Bleacher Report, the Warriors would send a significant haul to the Miami Heat. The deal could include Jonathan Kuminga, Andrew Wiggins, Kevon Looney, Gary Payton II, a 2025 first-round pick, a 2027 first-round pick, and a 2028 first-round pick swap, in exchange for Butler and Josh Richardson.

For Golden State, this trade would pair Butler’s inside-the-arc scoring with Curry’s elite shooting, creating a dynamic offensive combination.

Defensively, Butler’s addition alongside Draymond Green would give the Warriors a formidable lineup, capable of frustrating opponents with their intensity and versatility.

While the Warriors would be sacrificing significant depth, young talent, and future draft capital, the move would signal a clear commitment to a “win-now” mentality.

At age 36, Curry is still performing at an elite level, but the window for another championship is closing. Adding a proven winner like Butler could be the piece the Warriors need to contend for Curry’s fifth title.

What’s in it for the Miami Heat?

For the Heat, trading Butler would mark the start of a long-term rebuild or retooling phase. In return, Miami would receive Jonathan Kuminga, a young and promising talent, to pair with their core of Bam Adebayo, Tyler Herro, and Jaime Jaquez Jr. Kuminga’s athleticism and potential would fit well into the Heat’s player development culture.

In addition to Kuminga, Miami would also get the contracts of Wiggins, Looney, and Payton—veteran players who could either contribute immediately or be moved in future trades for more assets. However, the real value for the Heat may lie in the draft capital.

The 2025 and 2027 first-round picks, along with the 2028 pick swap, give Miami the flexibility to build through the draft or pursue another star when the opportunity arises.

While parting ways with Butler would be a tough decision for the Heat, this trade package could set them up for sustained success down the road. The move would allow Miami to remain competitive while accumulating valuable assets to reshape their roster for the future.

As the trade deadline approaches, both the Warriors and Heat could find themselves weighing their options. Golden State, in its pursuit of another championship run, may have to part with some of its future to stay in the hunt.

Meanwhile, Miami might see this as the perfect opportunity to pivot toward a new era while ensuring flexibility for bigger moves in the future.
