The New York Knicks have added another shooter to their roster ahead of the 2024-25 NBA season, signing veteran guard Landry Shamet to a one-year deal, as reported by ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski.
Known for his sharpshooting, Shamet brings a career 38.4% mark from beyond the arc, which will further complement All-Star point guard Jalen Brunson. Shamet, a 27-year-old guard, has played for several NBA teams, including the Philadelphia 76ers, Los Angeles Clippers, Brooklyn Nets, Phoenix Suns, and Washington Wizards.
Shamet’s arrival in New York provides the Knicks with additional depth as they prepare for the upcoming season, especially as they look to build on their playoff success from last year. However, with a crowded backcourt, Shamet will need to carve out a role behind Brunson and the Knicks’ other perimeter players.
Shamet Adds Shooting, But Knicks Still Lack Frontcourt Depth
Shamet’s signing addresses the Knicks’ desire for more shooting around their core players. Last season, Shamet played in 46 games for the Washington Wizards, averaging 7.1 points and 1.2 assists while shooting 33.8% from deep—below his career average.
The Knicks are betting on Shamet returning to his earlier form, where he shot 42.2% from three as a rookie, making him one of the more reliable shooters in the league.
Despite bolstering their backcourt, the Knicks still face an issue with their frontcourt depth. Following Isaiah Hartenstein’s departure in free agency, the Knicks were rumored to be considering veteran centers like JaVale McGee and Bismack Biyombo to provide backup to Mitchell Robinson.

Shamet’s Signing Shuts the Door on Ryan Arcidiacono’s Return
Shamet’s addition not only impacts the Knicks’ center search but also signals the end of any potential reunion with veteran guard Ryan Arcidiacono.
Arcidiacono, who had multiple stints with the Knicks, was seen as a candidate to rejoin his former Villanova teammates Jalen Brunson, Donte DiVincenzo, and Josh Hart. However, Shamet’s signing leaves no room for Arcidiacono on the roster.
While Shamet will join a backcourt loaded with talent, including Brunson, DiVincenzo, Cameron Payne, and rookie Tyler Kolek, his role on the team may be limited unless injuries arise.

However, with his playoff experience and shooting touch, Shamet could still be a valuable contributor, especially in late-game situations or during key moments in the postseason.
