The Los Angeles Lakers have been quiet this offseason, but the team is actively exploring the NBA trade market to bolster its lineup.

One player reportedly on their radar is Brooklyn Nets forward Cameron Johnson, who would provide a significant boost to the Lakers’ roster with his shooting and defensive abilities.

According to Brian Lewis of the New York Post, the Lakers are among several teams interested in Johnson. His 3-and-D skill set makes him a valuable asset, and the Brooklyn Nets, who are seemingly entering a rebuilding phase after trading Mikal Bridges, may be open to trading Johnson as well.

Lakers in Pursuit of Johnson

Johnson is in the second year of a four-year, $94.5 million contract, earning $23.6 million this season. To acquire him, the Lakers would need to assemble a competitive trade package. Players like D’Angelo Russell or Rui Hachimura, alongside rookie Jalen Hood-Schifino, could be included to match salaries, and the Lakers would likely need to add draft picks to sweeten the deal.

Last season, Johnson averaged 13.4 points and 4.3 rebounds per game while shooting 39.1% from beyond the arc. His ability to knock down long-range shots and contribute on defense makes him an ideal fit alongside Lakers stars LeBron James and Anthony Davis.

However, the Lakers face competition from other interested teams, including the Sacramento Kings, Orlando Magic, and Golden State Warriors. Whether Los Angeles can put together the most appealing offer remains to be seen, but landing Johnson would help address the team’s need for a reliable wing player.

While the Lakers have been quiet during this NBA offseason, a move for Johnson could be the shakeup they need to make a strong push in the upcoming season.
