The Miami Heat could certainly use some offensive assistance, but they have not been able to make any major additions this NBA offseason.
However, there is still time for the Heat to make a move.
Bleacher Report’s Andy Bailey has proposed an interesting trade idea for Miami where the club would land New Orleans Pelicans forward Brandon Ingram.
While Bailey doesn’t provide a specific trade package, he says that Terry Rozier, Duncan Robinson and Tyler Herro are the Heat’s best salary-filling contracts.
Miami ranked 21st in offensive efficiency and 27th in points per game this past season, so adding a scorer like Ingram into the mix would may massive dividends.
NBA RUMORS & NEWS: Miami Heat Updates
Ingram is coming off of a 2023-24 campaign in which he averaged 20.8 points per game on 49.2/35.5/80.1 shooting splits. The former All-Star actually regressed a bit this past year, posting his lowest scoring output since 2018-19 when he was with the Los Angeles Lakers.
Regardless, Ingram has registered over 20 points per game five years in a row on middling efficiency. He made an All-Star appearance back in 2019-20 when he recorded 23.8 points per game while shooting 46.3 percent from the floor and 39.1 percent from three-point range.
Can the Miami Heat get back into contention next season?
The Heat were able to sneak into the playoffs this past spring, but they were bounced by the Boston Celtics in the first round.
It should be noted that Jimmy Butler did not play in the series, but it seems hard to imagine Miami would have beaten the eventual NBA-champion Celtics even if he were healthy.
The question is, can the Heat return to championship-contender status in the Eastern Conference?
It’s going to be difficult next season.
NBA RUMORS & NEWS: Miami Heat Updates
The East has improved, with the New York Knicks and Philadelphia 76ers making significant moves this summer. Plus, the Milwaukee Bucks remain in play, and the Indiana Pacers, Cleveland Cavaliers and Orlando Magic are all impressive young squads.
Miami absolutely needs to make at least one other major addition in order to truly strike fear into any of the top teams in the conference, and with Butler aging and his contract set to expire next offseason, the Miami Heat don’t exactly have much time to waste.
