With its interest in acquiring Marcus Morris of the Cleveland Cavaliers, the Philadelphia 76ers are eying on Davis Bertans to fill the spot of a veteran shooter. The unrestricted NBA free agent currently waived by the Charlotte Hornets seems to fit the spot well. If the Sixers fail to acquire Morris, Davis Betans could be the potential replacement.

According to Philadelphia Inquirer’s Keith Pompey, the 76ers are linked to Marcus Morris Sr. and Davis Bertans, who remain available in free agency.

“But the Sixers have 13 players signed to standard NBA contracts. During the regular season, they’ll look to carry 14 players and keep one roster spot open. As a result, they’ll likely add only one more player. So it shouldn’t come as a surprise that the Sixers are interested in obtaining the [Marcus Morris] for that spot. According to sources, 6-10 sharpshooter Davis Bertans is another player they are interested in acquiring.”

Morris or Bertans – the better option

Two of the Sixers’ roster spots are currently open, making Morris and Bertans good contenders. However, several questions remain about both players. Morris, who was part of the Sixers prior to his trade with the Cavs, played 37 games, averaging 6.7 points and 2.9 rebounds.

Compared to his shooting skills, the Cavs player lacks an offensive player. With various teams ready to make a change, the Sixers might not go for Morris. Compared to his 13-year experience, Bertans can provide something to the team as a newbie and 6-foot-10 power forward. Besides having an advantage over its height, his quick shooting skills might be a good fit on the court.

From San Antonio Spurs, Washington Wizards, Dallas Mavericks, and Oklahoma City Thunder to Hornets, Bertans’ career average is 7.7 points and 2.4 rebounds per game. His career-high performance resulted in the Wizards claiming 15.4 points, 4.5 rebounds, and 1.7 assists per game.

In addition to his NBA games, the power forward was a Latvian player at the European Basketball Championships from 2011-16. He is also a three-time Serbian League and Slovenian Cup champion, which adds to his selection.
