Despite the NBA playoffs being right around the corner, there have already been a lot of discussions about how the offseason can play out. This will be a major summer for several franchises around the league, as performances in the postseason will dictate the next moves front offices make.

One of the players that people are keeping a close eye on is Cleveland Cavaliers NBA All-Star, Donovan Mitchell. Cleveland acquired Mitchell from the Utah Jazz in a blockbuster trade during the 2022 NBA offseason, helping put the franchise back on the map post-LeBron James.

The Cavaliers had a successful season, earning the No. 4 seed in the Eastern Conference but fell to the New York Knicks in the first round of the playoffs. This season, despite injuries to keep players, they are once again in the mix for homecourt advantage in the postseason.

They are a team that many people believe needs to find success otherwise some big changes could be on the horizon. Since being acquired, NBA rumors have swirled that Mitchell wasn’t long for Cleveland and he would leave at the first chance he had.

NBA NEWS & SCORES: Donovan Mitchell & Cleveland Cavaliers Updates

The Knicks and Miami Heat have been two teams linked to Mitchell as potential suitors. However, in a recent update provided by Grant Afseth of NBA Analysis Network, that may no longer be the case.

“According to multiple league sources who have told NBA Analysis Network, the growing sentiment around the NBA is that Donovan Mitchell plans to remain with the Cleveland Cavaliers after his current contract expires,” Afseth wrote.

That is huge news for the Cavaliers. If it is true that Mitchell intends to stick with them beyond his current contract, it makes building the roster that much easier. Recruiting players to the team would have been virtually impossible if there was any doubt Mitchell wouldn’t be along for the long haul as anyone joining the team because of him would want assurances he wouldn’t be leaving shortly after.

The 27-year-old Mitchell is averaging 27.4 points per game this season to go along with 6.1 assists, 5.3 rebounds and 1.8 steals per game. He is an integral part of the team’s success and knowing he plans to remain with the team long-term should put a lot of people at ease.
