The Cleveland Cavaliers are going to have their work cut out for them if they want to hold onto the No. 3 seed in the NBA’s Eastern Conference. They are currently two games ahead of the New York Knicks, who are riding a four-game winning streak.

Cleveland, on the other hand, has lost three out of their last five games. Getting on a winning streak is going to be very difficult as they are dealing with yet more discouraging injury updates on NBA All-Star, Donovan Mitchell.

Mitchell underwent PRP injections recently on a bone bruise on his knee. He was able to get back onto the court after missing seven games. Unfortunately, his return lasted only two games before he was hurt playing against the Houston Rockets.

In that game, Mitchell suffered a nasal fracture that kept him out of Monday night’s game against the Indiana Pacers. However, he is going to miss at least one more week as he underwent surgery on Tuesday to repair the fracture.

NBA NEWS & SCORES: Donovan Mitchell & Cleveland Cavaliers Updates

He will be re-evaluated in a week, which means he will miss at least four more games. The Cavaliers host the Miami Heat on Wednesday, before traveling to take on the Minnesota Timberwolves and Heat again on Friday and Sunday. They will then return home for a game against the Charlotte Hornets on Monday.

A home-and-home with the Hornets will be completed on the road on Wednesday, which is the first chance Mitchell will have to get back on the court based on the information shared today. The big game Cleveland should be aiming to have him back in the lineup by is Friday, March 29th at home against the Philadelphia 76ers.

Based on how the next few games without Mitchell go, that could be an important one in the NBA standings. Also, the Cavaliers embark on a five-game west coast trip after that, before finishing the 2023-24 NBA regular season with three games at home.
