Jalen Brunson‘s 34 points, complemented by Miles McBride‘s career-high 29, powered the New York Knicks to a 119-112 win against the Golden State Warriors during Monday’s NBA action. The victory marks the Knicks’ fourth consecutive win and a rare triumph against the Warriors, showcasing New York’s resilience and team spirit.

“This team has demonstrated all year there’s a lot of fight, a lot of heart, a lot of toughness and a lot of togetherness to the group,” Knicks coach Tom Thibodeau said. “So there’s a belief that we can win. We always talk about our defense, our rebounding, taking care of the ball. I thought we shared the ball extremely well tonight.”

Josh Hart‘s all-around performance was crucial, as he achieved his fifth triple-double in the last 21 games, playing an essential role throughout the entire game.

“You can’t say enough about the job Josh did as well. Josh’s toughness was huge for us in this game,” Thibodeau said.

Stephen Curry led the Warriors with 27 points, but Golden State’s struggles at home continued, dropping to a 17-18 record. Curry expressed confusion over the team’s inconsistency, acknowledging the need for solutions to their home game challenges.

“I don’t know what the answer is,” Curry said about the struggles at home. “If we did, we would be able to get ahead of it.”

Despite a valiant effort to close the gap, the Warriors could not overcome the Knicks’ early lead. “Just one of those nights where we didn’t really get anything going from that starting group,” coach Steve Kerr observed, pointing out the difficulty his team faced right from the start.

Brunson’s exceptional performance on this Western trip has been a key factor for the Knicks, with the guard averaging over 40 points across the first three games. The Knicks’ strategic adjustments and McBride’s standout game, especially in defense against Curry, were instrumental in securing the win.

The absence of forward OG Anunoby, who is day to day after his elbow issue flared up, led to McBride’s increased role, which he seized with an impressive showing in both halves. Thibodeau explained the tactical decision to add more shooting to the lineup, enhancing their offense against Golden State’s defense.

“We wanted to add more shooting to the floor,” Thibodeau said. “That’s really, you know, why we did it. When they sent the second defender (at Brunson) now we have another 3-point shooter out there. We thought that would make a difference.”
