The Memphis Grizzlies emerged victorious against the Brooklyn Nets, employing strategic plays and showcasing remarkable teamwork to secure a 106-102 win during Monday’s NBA action. The game highlighted Memphis’ resilience and strategic focus on offensive rebounds, contributing to their success despite the absence of key players due to injuries.

Luke Kennard led the team with a season-high 25 points, helping the Grizzlies break a five-game losing streak. His performance was a bright spot, providing the team with much-needed momentum. Jake LaRavia and Lamar Stevens also made significant contributions, with LaRavia adding 14 points and 10 rebounds and Stevens chipping in 13 points.

“We got a lot of crucial offensive rebounds that helped us get extra possessions, so just something that we’ve been focusing on more lately,” LaRavia said.

The Grizzlies’ rebounding strategy, termed “hammers” and “daggers” by Coach Taylor Jenkins, played a critical role in their victory. This approach emphasizes the importance of offensive rebounds, either for immediate put-backs or for setting up three-point shots, significantly impacting the game’s outcome.

The Nets, under interim coach Kevin Ollie, struggled with their offensive performance and were unable to replicate their defensive prowess from a previous victory against the Grizzlies. Free throw accuracy also hampered Brooklyn’s efforts, with a notable missed opportunity in the game’s closing seconds.

“The play starts with the shot, that’s when their plays started,” Ollie said. “So when they shot it, they went to go get it.”

Despite the loss, Nic Claxton stood out for the Nets with 21 points. However, Brooklyn’s leading scorer, Mikal Bridges, faced challenges, contributing only 14 points. The defeat was a setback for the Nets, aiming to climb the Eastern Conference standings and secure a spot in the play-in tournament.

Kennard’s exceptional shooting, particularly from behind the arc, underscored his importance to the team, especially in light of the numerous games he missed due to injuries and illness.

“It definitely feels good to get a game like that and on top of it to get a win,” Kennard said. “We’ve struggled the last five, six games here.”
