Something interesting happens virtually every day during the NBA season. Sometimes it is an incredible highlight from a player or a team pulling off a major upset. Other times, there are some comic relief moments that all you can do is laugh at.

For the Minnesota Timberwolves, the latter occurred on Monday night. While head coach Chris Finch likely wasn’t thrilled about what happened, fans were able to get a chuckle out of the theatrics of NBA All-Star, Anthony Edwards.

With their game about to tip off against the Portland Trail Blazers, Edwards was nowhere to be seen on the court. Nickeil Alexander-Walker jumped off the bench to take his spot as the referees were preparing for the jump ball.

Edwards then emerged from the tunnel and went right to the scorer’s table. He could have checked into the game before tip-off, sending Alexander-Walker back to the bench. But, he waited until the first dead ball to check into the game.

NBA NEWS & RUMORS: Anthony Edwards & Minnesota Timberwolves Updates

Technically, this is the first time Edwards has come off the bench in an NBA game since his rookie season. He was inserted into the starting five on January 29th, 2021 and has been in the starting shooting guard spot in every game he has played since until Monday night.

After the game, he was asked about what happened before the tip-off. “I lost track of time,” Edwards innocently admitted after the game, via the Associated Press.

Professional athletes are human, after all, and make mistakes just like everyone else during the day. Unfortunately for Edwards, he will now be the butt end of jokes for a little while as his tardiness to work has become a viral sensation on social media.

Edwards ended up playing 35 minutes against the Trail Blazers, scoring 13 points in a 119-114 victory. It was his second game back in the lineup after leaving at halftime during the team’s game last Friday for the birth of his child.
