The Boston Celtics have been the most dominant team in the NBA throughout the 2023-24 regular season. On Sunday afternoon, they reassured that fact during their dismantling of the Golden State Warriors, 140-88.

The victory was their 11th straight win, as Boston is now 48-12 on the season. They are 8.5 games clear of the second-place Milwaukee Bucks. To put into perspective how big of a lead that is, the Dallas Mavericks, who are in eighth place in the Western Conference, as 8.5 games behind the first-place Oklahoma City Thunder.

The Celtics are on cruise control, as they are many people’s favorites to win the NBA Championship. Sunday was a historic day for the franchise, as they became the first team to win at least three games by 50+ points.

That wasn’t the only history made on Sunday, as the Celtics were in the midst of one of the most dominant stretches in NBA history. During their 11-game winning streak, they are defeating teams by an average of 22.1 points per game.

That is the best point differential over the course of a winning streak of at least 10 games in a single season in NBA history. They also have the record for the best point differential over a six-game span with 29.8. That includes two 50+ point victories.

“It feels great, but, at the same time, it’s always within humility,” NBA All-Star Jaylen Brown said. “We don’t take the game for granted. We didn’t come and mess around and that’s just how we show our respect to the game, we handle business and take care of it. … It’s a lot of respect for the Golden State Warriors, but we feel like it’s our time now.”

This season’s Celtics team is one of the best in franchise history. Through 60 games, only two teams, in 1985-86 and 1964-65, recorded more than the 48 victories this season’s team has. Both of those teams won 49 games and took home the NBA Championship.

Will this year’s team be able to cap things off with the Larry O’Brien trophy? They are certainly poised to do so, as they are head and shoulders above the rest of the league currently.
