Everything is bigger in Texas. That’s part of why the state boasts three NBA teams. Each of the San Antonio Spurs, Houston Rockets, and Dallas Mavericks have proud histories.
With that said, only the Mavericks have done much winning as of late. That’s fine. The future is bright for both of Texas’ teams. The Rockets have one of the deepest collections of young talent in the NBA.
Meanwhile, the Spurs have Victor Wembanyama. He’s a potentially game-breaking talent. Could they pluck an underperforming young Rocket by acquiring Jalen Green this summer?
NBA Trade Proposal
Houston Rockets Receive: G Blake Wesley, 2024 First-Round Pick (TOR via SAS)
San Antonio Spurs Receive: G Jalen Green
The Rockets’ collection of young players is deep. With that said, there is no sure thing on this roster. Each of their young guys has a potentially fatal flaw.
Alperen Sengun is already putting up starry numbers. Still, questions remain about his defensive viability in the playoffs. Amen Thompson has flashed endless potential, but he can’t shoot. Looking at the rest of this roster, there is no clear-cut franchise player.

The Spurs don’t have that issue. Victor Wembanyama can clearly be that guy. This team has to be excited about their future. Would it be more exciting if they added Green?
Why The San Antonio Spurs Do The Deal
Green is struggling this year. In some respects, the league is moving away from players like him. Green has been wildly inefficient in 2023-24, and outside of volume scoring, he doesn’t offer much else.
Yet, some potential certainly remains. Green may have the quickest first step in the NBA. He’s also among the league’s most impressive leapers. In the right hands, he could be molded into a star NBA player.

Who better to oversee his development than Gregg Popovich? He’s one of the best coaches in the history of the league. If anyone can coax a star player out of Green, he’s the guy. Should the Rockets give him that opportunity?
Why The Houston Rockets Do The Deal
This pick is top-7 protected. You’ll notice that we didn’t list the protection in the proposal. This would be a draft-day deal. If the pick hasn’t been conveyed, the Rockets won’t be interested in it.
After all, Wesley hasn’t flashed much in the NBA. Sure, taking a flyer on him is reasonable. Still, for the Rockets, this deal is about getting an extra kick at the can in the 2024 draft.

Does parting with Green sting? You bet. This was supposed to be Houston’s savior. Yet, it’s not going that way. It may be time to move Green – even if it means keeping him in Texas.
