The NBA Finals are the biggest stage in basketball. If your team finds itself in the Finals, they’ve had a remarkable season. If they get there via the play-in tournament, you’ve witnessed a season for the ages.
That’s what the Miami Heat did last year. After fighting through the play-in tournament, they went all the way to the Finals. With that said, in 2023-24, there are concerns that the Heat hit a ceiling last season.
At least they advanced to the Finals. The Los Angeles Lakers do not appear likely to do that this season. If they want to get back to the big dance next year, they will need an upgrade in their backcourt. Could they acquire Tyler Herro from the Heat?

LeBron James led two of those charges. When he retires, he’ll see his jersey hanging in the Heat’s arena. James will see his number retired by several organizations.

Why The Los Angeles Lakers Do The Deal
At times, it feels like James must be immortal. His production at this age is unmatched throughout league history. Still, he isn’t immoral – James is aging.
So, the Lakers need another dynamic offensive player on their roster. They need to acquire someone who can create offense from scratch. Given their current roster construction, it would make sense if that player was a guard.

Why not Herro? He’s a talented shot-creator. Herro can also space the floor when James is orchestrating the offense. Should the Heat part with him?
Why The Miami Heat Do The Deal
The Heat have made several title runs. Realistically, it’s been a long time since this team wasn’t competitive. The Heat typically avoid rebuilding on a long-term basis.
Who knows? They could make another Cinderella run to the NBA Finals. If they do, they’ll hang onto Herro. Otherwise, this team may need to temporarily concede defeat.

They don’t have to tank if they make this deal. This deal allows the Heat a chance to take stock of their situation. They could move Jimmy Butler and rebuild around Bam Adebayo, or, they could trade some of these assets for a new star. Either way, the long-term goal will be to get back to the Finals.
