After a loss to the Golden State Warriors, the possibility of the New York Knicks falling into the NBA Play-In Tournament is becoming real.
It was a fun atmosphere in Madison Square Garden on Thursday night, as Stephen Curry and the Warriors came to town. As expected with a star like Curry in attendance, there was a noticeable buzz in the arena.
The Knicks also had a couple of their players back from injuries with Jalen Brunson and Isaiah Hartenstein returning to the lineup. It was great to see Brunson back on the court, as there was a lot of concern when he missed the game surprisingly against the New Orleans Pelicans with cervical neck spasms.
Despite having Brunson back in the lineup, the Knicks fell short against the Warriors, as Golden State jumped them early and never looked back. In the win, Curry put on a show in MSG, as he totaled 31 points and hit eight 3-pointers. In addition to Curry, the Warriors also got a strong performance from Jonathan Kuminga, as he totaled 25 points and eight rebounds, taking advantage of an undersized Knicks frontline.
NBA NEWS & RUMORS: Stephen Curry, Jalen Brunson, Golden State Warriors, New York Knicks Updates
For New York, the loss means that they are now 3-7 in their last 10 games, and they are quickly falling in the standings for the Eastern Conference. As of now, the Knicks are holding a one-game lead as the fourth seed. However, they have less than two games separating them from the Philadelphia 76ers, Orlando Magic, Indiana Pacers, and Miami Heat.
The Magic, Pacers, and Heat are all playing good basketball right now, as they have each gone 7-3 in their last 10 games. This has to be a cause for concern for the Knicks, as the injuries finally feel like they have become too much to overcome as the playoff race has heated up.
It wasn’t too long ago that the Knicks had their eyes set on the No. 2 seed in the conference. Now, the possibility of them falling into the NBA Play-In Tournament has become very real. With every game meaning so much for them to remain in the top-six, the Knicks desperately need to get healthy.
