The NBA is as competitive as it’s ever been. There’s more parity in the league than we’ve seen in a long time. If you need proof, look at the Golden State Warriors.
This team has been a dynasty for a long time. As it stands, they’re on the cusp of the playoff picture. Granted, the Warriors have aged – but the competition around them has improved in the process.
At least the Warriors are still in the hunt. The Portland Trail Blazers are in the infancy stages of a rebuild. Who knows how the league will look when they’re ready to compete? Could they send Malcolm Brogdon to the Warriors in the meantime?

We don’t mean to knock the Warriors. We’re not saying they didn’t play in a competitive era. They did – only most of the competition was with them at the top of the league.
in the Western Conference, only the Houston Rockets posed a serious threat. Still – those Rockets teams were frightening. They could have won a title in a different era. Meanwhile, LeBron James’ Cleveland Cavaliers did manage to topple the Warriors en route to a title.

Flash forward to today. No team has repeated as NBA champions since the Warriors did it last. Still, it doesn’t seem likely that the Warriors will be in the mix next year. Does this deal get them closer?
Why The Golden State Warriors Do The Deal
It should. Brogdon is quite the upgrade over Wiggins. He may also be a perfect fit for this Warriors team.
After all, Klay Thompson is aging. The Warriors may retain him in free agency this year. They may even start him next year. Still, having a versatile combo guard like Brogdon who can play next to both Curry and Thompson off the bench will help. Brogdon is solid across the board: he can shoot, defend and make plays.

Still, that’s not the only reason that the Warriors should like this deal. Brogdon’s deal runs half as long as Wiggins’. The Warriors’ books are getting messy – moving off of Wiggins’ contract is another benefit. Should the Blazers absorb that deal?
Why The Portland Trail Blazers Do The Deal
The Blazers shouldn’t mind taking on Wiggins’ deal. This is exactly what rebuilding teams should do. The Blazers are taking on Wiggins’ contract to pick up an asset.
With that said, Wiggins is having a down year. He could return to form. If he did, the Blazers should be able to flip him for additional assets. Still, even if he can’t, they can simply sit him while they continue rebuilding.

This pick will aid them in that cause. It’s lightly protected – that should be market value for an aging, injury-prone point guard. It’s still a decent asset that helps Portland prepare for the future – however the league looks when they get there.
