The Boston Celtics have been the best team in the NBA throughout the 2023-24 regular season. One of the reasons they have played so well has been the presence of point guard Jrue Holiday, who they acquired in an offseason trade from the Portland Trail Blazers.
When the Milwaukee Bucks traded Holiday as part of their package to acquire Damian Lillard from Portland, they had to know there was a chance Holiday would get moved again to a contender. That contender being their main competition in the Eastern Conference had to hurt, especially seeing how well things have turned out.
To this point, Holiday’s stats aren’t jumping off the score sheet. He is scoring 13 points per game with 5.7 rebounds and 4.8 assists, pedestrian stats by most metrics. But, he has played an integral part in the team’s success, doing whatever is asked of him on a nightly basis.
That kind of selflessness has not only helped the Celtics but could help Team USA this season. As shared by Shams Charania and Joe Vardon of The Athletic, Holiday is expected to be among the 12 players on Team USA’s roster for the 2024 Olympics.
NBA NEWS & RUMORS: Jrue Holiday, Boston Celtics, Team USA, 2024 Summer Olympics Updates
According to Charania and Vardon, Holiday is someone that Team USA has been pursuing throughout the 2023-24 NBA season. That pursuit looks to have paid off, as they are reporting that Holiday has given them a commitment in recent weeks.
During their run to the gold medal in Tokyo in 2021, Holiday was regarded by many people as the team’s second most important player behind Kevin Durant. His skill set translates well to international play as Holiday is a great two-way player with excellent on-ball defense and playmaking ability.
Holiday is the latest big addition for Team USA, in what is shaping up to be their most star-studded roster with NBA players in a while. Among the players considered locks for the Paris Games are LeBron James, Stephen Curry, Joel Embiid, Jayson Tatum and Durant.
