At this point, anything short of an NBA Championship will be considered a disappointment for the Boston Celtics. They are running through the league this season, as they currently own the best record at 45-12.

Boston is 7.5 games clear of the second-place Cleveland Cavaliers in the Eastern Conference, which is a bigger gap than the Minnesota Timberwolves, who are first place in the Western Conference, have over the eighth-place Dallas Mavericks. What the Celtics are accomplishing this season is truly impressive as they are the favorites to win the NBA title.

Boston was quiet ahead of the NBA Trade Deadline, as general manager Brad Stevens made his biggest moves in the offseason. Kristaps Porzingis and Jrue Holiday were the big acquisitions, pushing the Celtics head and shoulders above their Eastern Conference counterparts.

NBA NEWS & RUMORS: Blake Griffin, Derrick White, Payton Pritchard, Boston Celtics Updates

Given how well things are progressing right now, it is hard to imagine they will make many moves for the rest of the season. The Celtics could look to bring in a veteran on the buyout market, but there is one person that players on the roster would love to see brought in; Blake Griffin.

According to Brian Robb, a Celtics reporter for Mass Live, via Legion Hoops on X, Derrick White and Payton Pritchard are among two of the players who want to see Griffin back in Boston. They have reportedly been begging Griffin to come back, but he seems content with where he is at currently.

“We talk quite a bit, I’m just enjoying my life right now guys,” Griffin said when asked about it.

Griffin, a six-time NBA All-Star, spent the 2022-23 season with the Boston Celtics after spending parts of two seasons with the Brooklyn Nets. He provided the team with some spot minutes throughout the season, appearing in 41 games, with 16 starts.

However, he was not a part of their playoff rotation. Griffin got into only one game, in the first round against the Atlanta Hawks, in Game 5. He has generated no known interest around the NBA yet this season.

Griffin seems intent on how things have turned out, enjoying semi-retirement. If he were to join the Celtics for the stretch run of the season, it would be mostly as a veteran presence in the locker room as he isn’t going to offer them an upgrade in production compared to what they are already receiving.
