The Minnesota Timberwolves are on a roll. This may be the hottest team in the NBA. The Wolves are on top of the Western Conference standings. This long-suffering fanbase has a lot to celebrate.

They’ve finally beaten the Karl-Anthony Towns rumors, right? There’s no way that the Timberwolves will trade him now. Towns has been integral to the team’s success in 2023-24.

Not so fast. It’s been rumored that the Timberwolves could shop Towns this summer. This team’s cap situation will get complicated when Anthony Edwards’ contract extension kicks in. Here are three teams that should look at him if he’s available.

New York Knicks

Surely, you saw this coming. The New York Knicks have been linked to Towns for a long time. By now, it would almost come as a surprise if they didn’t acquire him at some point.

After all, the Knicks have the assets. This is a strong playoff team, but the Knicks are likely a star away from truly contending. Could Towns be that far?

It’s debatable. Towns isn’t the cleanest fit on this roster. With Mitchell Robinson, Julius Randle, and O.G. Anunoby on the roster, the Knicks may be too frontcourt-heavy to blow their assets on a big man. Is there a team with more of a need for Towns?

Los Angeles Lakers

At one point, we may have argued that Towns couldn’t play alongside Anthony Davis. Those days have passed. Towns has had tremendous success alongside Rudy Gobert this year. He’d likely do better next to the more versatile Davis.

Meanwhile, he’d be a perfect fit alongside LeBron James. With Towns’ elite floor spacing, James will have ample room to operate. The Los Angeles Lakers have seemingly prioritized size in recent years. They may see the appeal in adding Towns to their frontcourt.

Will they be able to add him? That’s a different question. With Towns making strides on the defensive end, he may command a price that the Lakers can’t meet. Is there a team with assets who could be interested in Towns?

Brooklyn Nets

The Brooklyn Nets need an offensive focal point. Most would have them acquiring a lead guard. That’s an option – but why not one of the best offensive big men in the NBA?

Again, we know Towns can succeed next to another big. He shouldn’t have any trouble playing alongside Nicolas Claxton. Alternatively, the Nets may prefer to let him walk as a free agent and surround Towns with shooters and defenders.

Either way, the Nets have enough assets to land him. They need a first option. This feels like a perfect match – no matter how hot the Timberwolves are right now.
