The NBA trade deadline has passed, and Dejounte Murray is still an Atlanta Hawks. For a lot of fans, this came as a major surprise. Murray was supposed to be moved.
Now, there’s plenty of speculation about why he’s still a Hawk. Some have suggested that the team intends to trade Trae Young this summer. That’s certainly possible.
In all likelihood, the Hawks are weighing their options. We can’t rule out the possibility that they’re going to move Young. At the same time, they could still move Murray. Here are three teams that ought to take a look at him.
Brooklyn Nets
The Brooklyn Nets need a point guard. Dejounte Murray is a point guard. This is an open-and-shut case, right?
Well, it depends on Murray’s value. Around the deadline, it seemed to be minimal. If that’s true, Murray could appeal to the Nets. This could be a way for them to add primary playmaking without giving up all of their assets.

On the other hand, the Nets may intend to give up all of their assets. This organization may be holding out for a true superstar at the point guard spot. Is there another team in need of some playmaking?
San Antonio Spurs
We know what you’re thinking. The San Antonio Spurs already moved Murray. Yet, it was rumored that they were considering bringing him back at the deadline.
Why not? The Spurs moved Murray to tank for Victor Wembanyama. Mission accomplished. Now that Wembanyama is secured, the Spurs could bring Murray back into the fold. This team will likely want to be more competitive in 2024-25.

On the other hand, it may depend on who the Spurs draft. If they land a point guard like Nikola Topic or Isaiah Collier, they may prefer to give their new lottery pick some run. Who else could target Murray?
Los Angeles Lakers
It feels likely that at least one Hawks point guard will end up in Los Angeles next year. By all accounts, the Lakers are interested in Young. At the same time, they were linked to Murray leading up to the deadline.
Either would be a sensible option. In all likelihood, Murray will be cheaper than Young. The Lakers are a bit light on assets – they may prefer to spend less on Murray.

After all, the Lakers have their primary playmaker. They shouldn’t need a lot next to LeBron James. Murray should suffice – if he’s even available, that is.
