Victor Wembanyama has the potential to change the NBA. If you’ve been watching the San Antonio Spurs this year, you can’t deny that fact. Wembanyama looks like the generational prospect he was billed as heading into the draft.

Scoot Henderson has a lot of potential in his own right. For a long time, he was expected to be the second overall pick in Wembanyama’s class. In the end, the Charlotte Hornets opted to select Brandon Miller.
What happened here? There are a couple of explanations. The Hornets already have LaMelo Ball on their roster. It seemed that they preferred to bring in a player like Miller who doesn’t need the ball to impact the game.

At the same time, this happens throughout every draft cycle. At one point, Emoni Bates was seen as a potential top pick – he was selected in the second round. Either way, Henderson slipped to the Blazers at three. Should they move Brogdon this summer?
Why The Portland Trail Blazers Do The Deal
Wembanyama has already flashed his immense potential. By contrast, Henderson has struggled to showcase his abilities. It’s been a difficult inaugural NBA season for the rookie.
What’s the solution? Perhaps Henderson needs more reps. If that’s true, the Blazers would benefit from moving Brogdon. This deal frees up more time for Henderson to handle the rock. In time, that should make him a better player.

Yet, that’s not all that the Blazers are doing here. They’re also picking up a lightly protected first. Given Wembanyama’s trajectory, that pick is likely to convey. Should the Spurs send it to Portland?
Why The San Antonio Spurs Do The Deal
The Spurs have been linked to Trae Young. Perhaps they’ll land him. It will be costly. Young is a star player who the Spurs will have to give up multiple future firsts to land.
Are they ready to make that type of move? Perhaps the Spurs should be more patient. Yet, they should be looking to take a step forward next year. Wembanyama isn’t likely to be content with losing seasons for long.

So, why not compromise and bring in Brogdon? He can manage the game, space the floor, make plays, and defend. Acquiring Brogdon will make the Spurs a considerably better team in 2024-25. He could help Wembanyama change the league in the process.
