The NBA is a place where anything can happen. Even the most impossible scenarios are realistic. You may think there’s no way something will happen – and suddenly, it’s our new reality.

For example, the Milwaukee Bucks would never trade Giannis Antetokoumnpo, right? Well, if Antetokoumnpo requests a trade, they may not be able to avoid that fate. The Bucks will keep him at all costs, but in today’s NBA, players have the means to force the hand.

In all likelihood, that isn’t going to happen. Antetokoumnpo will likely remain on the Bucks. With that said, they’ve had a somewhat disappointing season. If the Bucks don’t make a deep playoff run, Antetokoumnppo could force his way onto a new team. Could that team be the Golden State Warriors?

NBA Trade Proposal

Milwaukee Bucks Receive: G/F Andrew Wiggins, G/F Gary Payton II, C Kevon Looney, F Jonathan Kuminga, G/F Moses Moody, 2026 First-Round Pick (GSW), 2027 First-Round Pick (Swap – GSW), 2028 First-Round Pick (GSW), 2029 First-Round Pick (Swap – GSW), 2031 First-Round Pick (GSW)

Golden State Warriors Receive: F/C Giannis Antetokoumnpo

This isn’t the first time we’ve speculated about Antetokoumnpo moving. In a sense, it’s surprising that he’s still a Buck. In today’s NBA, superstars don’t tend to stick with the same small-market team that drafted them for long.

Last summer, Antetokoumnpo commented that he would be open to leaving. He said that the team had to make moves that put them in a position to compete for the NBA title. The Bucks responded by acquiring Damian Lillard

So far, that acquisition hasn’t made them a better team. The Bucks miss Jrue Holiday on defense. Yes, they could still turn this season around. If they don’t, could they send Antetokoumnpo to the Warriors?

Why The Milwaukee Bucks Do The Deal

The Bucks will avoid this deal at all costs. They will pray if they’re religious, and cross their fingers if they’re superstitious. They’d rather do anything outside of trading Antetokoumnpo.

Look on the bright side. If Antetokoumnpo does request a trade, the Bucks will receive the earth, moon and sun. Even with his value depressed by a trade request, the Bucks will hold out until they receive a historic offer. Does this qualify?

We think so. The Warriors are light on draft capital, but three first-round picks and two swaps is still a haul. Still, this return is highlighted by Jonathan Kuminga – he’s a potential star. Should the Warriors give him up?

Why The Golden State Warriors Do The Deal

Yes. Kuminga is going to be very good. The odds that he’ll be as good as Antetokoumnpo are exceedingly slight. That’s true of virtually every young player in the NBA.

Imagine Antetokoumnpo next to Curry. With Antetokoumnpo’s ability to get to the rim and Curry’s spacing, the Warriors would be unguardable. Meanwhile, they’d still have Draymond Green, and in all likelihood, they could retain Klay Thompson in free agency as well.

In other words, the Warriors would be back in the driver’s seat for the NBA title. Yes, they’re giving up a lot here – it’s a cost worth paying. Whether it will happen or not remains to be seen.
