Oklahoma City Thunder guard Shai Gilgeous-Alexander has emerged as one of the NBA’s newest forces over the last couple of seasons, and he has made his team one of the best right now in the Western Conference.

On Tuesday, the Thunder got themselves a 127-113 win on the road against a solid Orlando Magic team. They took control in the third quarter, and while Jalen Williams led them in scoring with 33 points, Gilgeous-Alexander had 32 points, five assists, two steals and one blocked shot.

When he hit a baseline shot with just over two minutes to go in the fourth quarter, he yelled at the Magic fans in attendance to “go home.”

On the season, Gilgeous-Alexander is averaging 31.1 points, 6.5 assists and 5.5 rebounds per game while shooting 54.6 percent from the field and 37.1 percent from 3-point range. One of his greatest strengths is getting to the free throw line and converting there — he’s averaging 9.1 attempts a game from the charity stripe and is converting 88.3 percent of such attempts.

But he’s also becoming a force on the defensive end. The 6-foot-6 25-year-old is leading the NBA with 2.2 steals per game, and he’s also putting up 0.9 blocks per contest, which is a lot for a guard, especially one who weighs under 200 pounds.

With a 37-17 record, Oklahoma City is in second place in the Western Conference and is just one game behind the first-place Minnesota Timberwolves. More and more people are calling the team a championship contender, and while its roster is very young, it will be a handful come playoff time.
