The Golden State Warriors have dominated the NBA for a decade. This has been a dynasty for the ages. Nobody will forget the mark that the Warriors left on the league.
Is that run coming to an end? Time will tell. It’s been a disappointing season for the Warriors. They are beginning to look their age. At this point, one wonders if they’ll compete for an NBA title again during Steph Curry’s career.
At the same time, this roster has some holes. The Warriors are light in the middle. If they added a starting-caliber big man this summer, they could get back to title contention. How about Clint Capela of the Atlanta Hawks?
NBA Trade Proposal
Atlanta Hawks Receive: G/F Andrew Wiggins, 2026 First-Round Pick (Lottery Protected – GSW)
Golden State Warriors Receive: C Clint Capela, G/F AJ Griffin
Few teams have been as dominant as the Warriors in NBA history. For some time, their presence in the Finals was a foregone conclusion. Only one Western Conference team ever posed a serious threat.
That team was the Houston Rockets. The Harden-led Rockets were specifically designed to beat the Warriors. They featured a platoon of defensive wings alongside Harden, Chris Paul, and a dominant rim protector in the middle.

That rim protector was Clint Capela. With that said, Capela has lost a step since those days. He used to be able to defend in space, but now, he’s exclusively a drop coverage big. Should the Warriors target him?
Why The Golden State Warriors Do The Deal
The secret here is that the Warriors don’t exclusively do this deal for Capela. They’ve got ulterior motives. For starters, they’ll be happy to flip Wiggins’ deal for an expiring contract.
They may also be glad to add Griffin. He’s seemingly fallen out of favor in Atlanta this year. Still, he’s a young knockdown shooter with some defensive upside. The Warriors could get the best of him in 2024-25.

At the same time, they could use Capela. The Warriors need a player who can’t be physically dominated. That’s Capela. They can use him in spurts and it should make them a better team next season. Should the Hawks part with him?
Why The Atlanta Hawks Do The Deal
Some will question our logic here. The Hawks’ salary sheet is already messy. Why are they taking on a bloated contract in Wiggins?
Well, in theory, he’s a complimentary piece to Trae Young and/or Dejounte Murray. Granted, it’s been rumored that the Hawks could move one or the other – if not both.
This deal should still work for them. If they’re keeping either of their playmakers, Wiggins will work with them if he regains his form as a 3-and-D wing.

If they’re moving them both, they’ll be happy to take on this pick. Granted, it’s lottery-protected, but it’s still an asset. In time, the Hawks could use it to build their own dynasty.
