The Miami Heat received positive updates regarding the injury Terry Rozier suffered against the Boston Celtics during Sunday’s NBA action.

Shams Charania from The Athletic and Stadium reported that an MRI scan showed Rozier has a sprained right knee but, fortunately, did not suffer any severe damage. The team plans to monitor his recovery on a week-to-week basis, with expectations for him to rejoin the Heat’s lineup this season.

Rozier experienced the injury after an awkward fall during a third-quarter play. Another Heat player, Josh Richardson, also sustained an injury in the same game, a 110-106 defeat to Boston. Richardson described feeling his shoulder dislocate during the game but was relieved when it popped back into place on the court.

According to Ira Winderman of the South Florida Sun-Sentinel, Richardson has been diagnosed with a dislocated shoulder and is likely to be sidelined for over two weeks.

“I felt my shoulder pop out on the floor and then it popped back in laying on the ground, so thank goodness for that,” Richardson said.

Rozier was in the process of integrating himself into Miami’s game strategy after being traded from the Charlotte Hornets in exchange for Kyle Lowry and a 2027 first-round draft pick earlier in January.

Since joining Miami, Rozier has contributed an average of 12.6 points, 6.6 assists, and 4.5 rebounds over 10 games, with his shooting accuracy at 35.9% from the field and 23.4% from the perimeter.

These figures represent a decrease from his performance during the first 30 games of the season with the Hornets, where he averaged 23.2 points with shooting percentages of 45.9% from the field and 35.8% from three-point range.

The injuries to Rozier and Richardson come at a challenging time for the Heat, who are embarking on a six-game road trip starting with a game against the Milwaukee Bucks on Tuesday.

Currently holding a 28-25 record and in eighth place in the Eastern Conference, Miami must navigate the upcoming games without Rozier and Richardson to maintain their position and aim for a top-six finish to avoid participating in the play-in tournament.
