The New York Knicks are one of the most active teams in the NBA with just a few hours left before the trade deadline. They are looking to shore up a roster that has been hit hard by injuries recently, leaving Tom Thibodeau’s rotation extremely short-handed.
Julius Randle and OG Anunoby have both missed five games and counting with no concrete timetable for a return. Quentin Grimes has missed three games and counting with a knee injury and Mitchell Robinson hasn’t played since early December.
Bringing in some reinforcements to help the healthy players eat up some minutes is imperative. If Jalen Brunson, Josh Hart, Donte DiVincenzo, Precious Achiuwa and Isaiah Hartesntein have to keep playing 38+ minutes every night, they aren’t going to make it to the NBA Playoffs.
Alas, from the sounds of it, some help could be on the way soon. According to Jake Fischer of Yahoo Sports, the Knicks and Philadelphia 76ers have had some conversations about acquiring both Bojan Bogdanovic and Alec Burks from the Detroit Pistons.
While the 76ers have reportedly found no progress, the Knicks are still involved in trade talks with the Pistons. Landing Bogdanovic and Burks would improve the team’s outlook this season immensely, as they would fill major holes in the rotation.
New York is in desperate need of another shot creator and ball handler, a role Burks has previously filled with the team. Bogdanovic would be a nice insurance policy in the front court, capable of playing both forward spots in relief of Anunoby or Randle. The Knicks have been short on forwards all season but that would change with this deal.
Both players are proven veterans and would upgrade the current team. Bogdanovic and Burks are also excellent 3-point shooters, which teams can never have too many of. The more shooters Thibodeau can put around Jalen Brunson and Randle the better.
The Pistons have been the most active team ahead of the NBA Trade Deadline to this point, already completing two trades. They acquired Simone Fontecchio from the Utah Jazz and traded Monte Morris to the Minnesota Timberwolves. It would not be a surprise to see them sell high on veterans such as Burks and Bogdanvoic, as they have already guaranteed a losing record this season.
